The Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT) at Clean Air Partnership is thrilled to announce that Markham Cycles has been awarded a Trillium Foundation Grow Grant. With this three-year funding, starting in 2021, TCAT will expand Markham Cycles within Markham and open a second location in York Region.
The focus of the grant is Active People, and we will be supporting, encouraging, and removing barriers to cycling for transportation and recreation, using our community bike hub model. This proven model was developed with researchers from the University of Toronto and has been successfully implemented in two other communities. We’re excited to see this valuable initiative continue to grow cycling in suburban communities.
We’re also working hard on this summer’s programming. The closure of Milliken Mills Community Centre due to Covid-19 means that things will look a little different, but we still have lots of exciting things planned for July and August, with York Region as the lead sponsor and other funders currently being finalized.
