The third Markham Cycles More theme is: Markham Summer Treats!
The theme runs from August 13th to 27th and highlights two new Active Markham routes that connect you to local businesses offering bubble tea, ice cream, cookies and so much more!
Try out the “Villages and Valley” route and visit Main Street Markham and Main Street Unionville, looping back on quiet streets and through the Rouge Valley. Or come visit us in Downtown Markham on Sundays, when Enterprise Blvd goes car-free!
This theme is all about supporting local businesses who have had a tough time during the pandemic.Take a photo of your bike at shops or restaurants in each of these three neighbourhoods.
Prizes include gift certificates for summer treats from the Old Fire Hall Confectionery, Flavours of Unionville and It’s The Cat’s Meow Cafe!
And yes – we are still looking for bike parking suggestions and infrastructure improvements! Let us know where Markham’s bike network can be improved for another entry into our prize draw!
Photo Stop Locations
For this theme, take photos with your bike at any shop or restaurant in these three neighbourhoods: Downtown Markham, Main St Unionville and Main Street Markham. Make use of the “Villages an Valley” route and car-free Enterprise to get there!
Any shop or restaurant you visit by bike counts! But if you’re looking for more of a challenge, a select number of businesses have volunteered to be Photo Stops and put these signs out front or in their window. How many can you find?
How to Participate
Sign up and set a summer cycling goal.
Then take a photo with your bike at shops and restaurants in Downtown Markham, Main St Markham, and Main St Unionville from now until August 27th. Want a bigger challenge? Find the “Photo Stop” signs at select local businesses.
Submit your photos via social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) using the hashtag #MarkhamCyclesMore and tagging @MarkhamCycles, or emailing it in (markhamcycles@cleanairpartnership.org).
You can also submit a suggestion for improvements to Markham’s Cycling Network or tell us about a location in need of bike parking. As the City continues to improve the trails, bike lanes and cycle tracks, City staff are looking for the public’s feedback on where infrastructure is missing and where adjustments and improvements can be made.
All submissions will be entered into a draw to win prizes. Draws will take place every two weeks, when a new theme and a new set of photo-stop locations will be announced.
