That’s a wrap on Markham Cycles 2022! Over the past year, Markham Cycles transitioned from its 2021 hybrid model back to full-time in-person programming. We were thrilled to open the doors of our two community bicycle hubs all summer long and bring together hundreds of community members who share a curiosity and passion for biking.
This year, programming included Group Rides, Bicycle Lending Library, DIY Bike Repair, and more. Overall, our programming engaged 1,558 participants, with 765 bikes fixed and 120 bikes given away for free. With each program, we worked to ensure that Markham Cycles continues to build bike culture across the city and make it easier for people of all ages to begin and continue cycling.
Here are the highlights from our 2022 season:
DIY Bike Repair: 32 sessions, 449 bikes tuned up, 128 volunteers
Community Bicycle Booths: 19 sessions, 312 bikes tuned up
Bicycle Lending Library: 32 sessions, 392 items lent out
Group Rides: 12 group rides, 115 participants
Webinars and Workshops: 5 sessions, 65 participants
Bike Rescue: 13 sessions, 130 bikes refurbished
Thank you to our funders, volunteers, partnership, and the City of Markham for making 2022 such a success. We can’t wait for what’s to come in 2023!
